Apocalypto 2006 10 out of 10

Brilliant ---Brutally Violent  and Powerful.   I  was really surprised by how much I liked this film.   I thought it was the best film in 2006.--- and it probably should have won the Oscar if Mel Gibson –the films director hadn't gone all drunken nazi-style during the summer.    The film used many elements from many other films –and was typical of several previous Gibson flicks –like The Patriot and Braveheart. ----So although it wasn't completely original ---it happened to burrow the right elements of the films it burrowed from.   The story was great—the cinematography was beautiful---and it was a wild ride.   Epic –Gibson should continue to tell war stories from all of history.   It had exactly the type of  bloody  action that inspires my current project  of the Pineappleman's stories

Nerds --Hotties and Buffy "One more time with feeling" Part 2 (2007)

Part 2  --Back in Nerd City -roaming the booths with our giant dork bags of free stuff --shuffling around like undead zombie nerds --we ventured through every square inch of the place.  Taking pictures gathering free hand outs trying not to spend a lot of money.    Ok enough talking  --here are more random pictures

Ok One of the Highlights for me was the fact that there were a lot of Indiana Jones stuff---

One of my favorite pieces of free nerd swag for the day was  Indy IV coin that I hope is still somewhere at the bottom of my bag of free junk..   Here is me at Indy Fans booth with the ladies

Getting exhausted and hungry again --we decided first to head to the car and unload our nerd bags.   What a relief.   Then had dinner at a cool little pizza  bar  downtown  can't remember the name I was pretty brain dead by this time .  Then unencumbered satisfied with some "Good Eats" (inside joke)  in our bellies we headed back to finally get to see one of the things I came for.  We jumped in line at 7pm for the Buffy screening.   --The program before it wasn't that full so they let the Buffy people in early and said you can stay after for the Buffy.    So we watched  some  panel called "The Comic Book Club"   which was really quite bad  and dying on the vine of mediocrity  until it was mercifully saved  by the musical performance of 2 panelists   Hard n Phirm.   The room was literally dead until their witty performance of their PI song.

After this the Buffy screening was filled with confusion as they had why too many people to fit in the room and were scrambling around at the last possible minute to satisfy the crowds --by getting a 2nd room.

Finally we got to watch  Buffy the Vampire Slayer  --the musical episode which is one of my favorite episodes of the series or TV for that matter.   It was wild "Rocky Horror" style with everyone singing along   totally cult style.   Very fun.

Then on the way out we caught the end of the costume pageant/talent competition  --which was showing on a  movie screen outside for all the people that didn't get into the pageant itself.  There was some dumb stuff and some entertaining stuff --like a cast of people dressed like characters from "Silent Hill" singing Monty Python's  "Always look on the bright side of Life"  --and a funny   Josie and the Pussycat dolls which also featured a dancing Tony the Tiger and The Cheshire Cat.

Well that is it other than the 9 pictures that are trapped on another memory disc that won't load onto the computer for some reason--maybe I'll do a pic only Part 3  once i solve the problem--so you can see  --some slave Leia's and a guy dressed like a warrior from 300  with spears stuck to his body holding a Starbucks coffee.  Good stuff.  

The Telling 2009 4 out of 10

This was basically an Anthology--3 main stories and one framing story....The only story that was okay was the retread Killer doll story...Dolls are so freaky but this has been done a thousand times before....

Holly Madison was in this movie--looking really hot...but an actress  NOT SO MUCH....(of course to be fair no one good when their first lines are "  Maybe next year you should join a Whorority instead of a Sorority".....The movie is exactly what you would expect fro mthe poster and trailer...  Cute girls in so so horror movie shot at the Playboy Mansion.  Basically a collection of bad Tales from the Creep type stories with hot chicks

Ella Enchanted 2004 5 out of 10

Ella Enchanted based on an award winning children's book is  a cheap  live action Shrek  ---Some movie executive thought they could take a book in spirit of Shrek and cash in on Shreks success.   Frankly I thought Shrek was overrated----I prefer my Fantasy to be Fantasy I don't  like the attempts to mix Fairy tales with the modern society----Give me Snow White  or Sleeping Beauty any day over this Shrek  style modern jokes and dance numbers----Please stop The Prince has a fan club and comments about Teen Beat type Prince magazine  --An Elf that wants to be a lawyer ( a rip-off of the only bad element of Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer)      That being said this cheesy movie was still watchable only because of Anne Hathaway's  charm.

Due Date 2010 6 of of 10

Zach Galifanakis is just plain funny...He was great in both Hangover flicks, shined when he hosted Saturday Night Live and again is good here....Robert Downey Jr.  is a great actor but maybe a little too intense for this comedy...Todd Phillips is on a Hollywood hot streak.....

Due Date is a good ---but for me suffers from the fact that it was trying to be  Planes, Trains and Automobiles  (if it was an R rated movie)   and Planes. Trains and Automobiles is a much better film.      Every wacky scene that takes place in this 2 guys forced to travel cross country together film I thought about better scenes and funnier moments from Planes and Trains.    There are definitely some good laughs I'm just wondering if Downey wasn't miscast in this role.....He is too angry....Too intense ...so that I didn't by it when he appologized and tried to be nice again......I think you need a Steve Martin that you can Identify for the role of the guy stuck on a journey with this travel partner from hell.

Nerds –Hotties & Buffy “One more time with Feeling” Part 1 2007

Okay so my nerd scale is currently about  a 9.5 out of 10   after my first ever trip to the San Diego Comic Con this weekend.    It was an overwhelming –exhausting day of fun—with way too many nerds (ourselves included).    It was so crowded--So  very  crowded  --my other friend wasn't even able to get a ticket since it sold out over a week ago

I'm not a big comic book guy –I haven't really read anything outside of Star Wars or Indiana Jones comics –because I'm just really into the stories of those franchises---but the art work in comic books is  truly amazing to me and just as good if not better than the artists whose stuff hangs in museums.  The sheer size and amount of people at the comic –con was literally ginormous.  

We entered the main area and decided to start at one side and make our way through the Plethora of booths.    The booths consisted of comics –comic art –Video Game companies –Tv Channels and Major Movie Studios all  hawking there wares and giving out free junk to the mindless horde of nerds.     Ttantalizing our confused nerd brains with flashing lights and  colors and luring us in their booths with scantily clad women

There was so much to see--information overload was in full effect--As we started to gather more and more useless free crap.   "Free stuff"  "Sure".

As the free crap gathered we got big giant DORK bags from Warner Bros --that were hawking Smallville and some other Superman related thing---All chance of not looking like a complete nerd was lost as we now carried giant red man purses around--  Here is Danny with Bart ---Notice the giant DORK  bag over the shoulder --very stylish.

I thought i had planned ahead ---i had a schedule of things i wanted to see  mainly a lot of TV show panels   since like i said not as much into the comics themselves---Well it wasn't to be.  After isles and isles of stuff we attempted to go to theTV Heroes panel---No such luck --50 million nerds beat us there.  the line already stretched around the entire upper floor of the building.

The BattleStar Gallactica Panel  - not going to happen.  So we headed back into Nerd Central and wandered around ---with attention spans of gnats.

An issue at the Comic-con was the lack of food at the event--i guess they think nerds run on batteries ---so we headed out in Downtown San Diego and had lunch at Dick's Last Resort

We had a great relaxing  lunch---escaping from the crazy crowds  --before flopping our big giant Nerd Bags of crap over our shoulders and heading back through the streets of Downtown.   If a nerd killing sniper had been on the roof targeting nerds  --we stood out as if we had targets on our backs.

We headed up stairs for another panel which we would again be too late for.   i was hoping to see the panel with Jos Whedon on the Buffy Comic book that is coming out that is basically what season 8  would have been if the show hadn't been cancelled--but even that was full--damn.    At this point i decided that i was not going to miss the last thing on my list of thing to see which was the 10th anniversary  for Buffy Screening of "One More Time with feeling"  the musical episode that started at 9pm--so we headed back down into the belly of the beast which I will continue tomorrow  blogging tomorrow night -since i'm running out of steam now .
