Dumb and Dumber 2 2014 5 out of 10 (Just Dumber)

Dumb and Dumber 2  --Just Dumber  5 out of 10 2014

I loved the original Dumb and Dumber.    I was looking foward to a sequel---but it just felt like they waited too long to do it.  For some reason this Dumb and Dumber Sequel --just seemed dumber.
The original movie never got a sequel because Jim Carrey was too big at the time. He had too many projects in the works and was getting 20 million a movie and didn't need to be in a sequel.   Well 20 years later Jim Carrey isn't in as high a demand and so the studios figured ---the time was right to do a sequel.

Well I guess they were wrong.   My wife turned to me while watching the movie and said "This is just stupid"....  and as much as I wanted to argue with her -I couldn't.   It just wasn't the same even though it was exactly the same.    Maybe that was the problem??  It was exactly the same...there was nothing new or nothing worth discovering with these characters and there return to the big screen.
It was too little too late.  The jokes fell flat and there were only a few moments where I even cracked a smile while watching it.
It felt like I was watching a bunch of bad outakes from the original film.  The stuff that would have been cut out of the first film.   Or maybe I've just matured and don't find this dumb humor funny any more (No that can't be it ).  I really can't explain why I didn't like it. The type of jokes were literally the same.  The Plot of the movie was pretty much the same.  It was like watching  a remake that is so much the same that there is absolutely nothing new to get out of it.

Dumb and Dumber 2 was just that Dumber and unecessary.

My opinion --watch the Trailer which has all of the best scenes and skip the movie.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone 2013 6 out of 10

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone  2013   6 out of 10

I found Burt Wonderstone to be good, but not really incredible.
I liked the premise of the movie and loved the posters, but expected a little more from the movie .   It stars Steve Carell  as Burt Wonderstone  and Steve Buscemi as Anton Marvelton as   two  Vegas magicians whose  Siegfried and Roy/ David Copperfield like act is getting old.  A newcomer in the form of Jim Carrey comes into town with a David  Blane/ Chris Angel type act that threatens  Burt's career and friendship with his partner.   A magician's battle of magic acts occurs after Burt loses his gig at Bally's.    The movie was enjoyable, but the plot is  too predictable  (It felt like a movie that Will Ferrell should have been in).
With the talents of Jim Carrey and Steve Carell the magician's battle could have been more Incredible.    Watching this movie I again thought......I would much rather have seen another season of Michael Scott on the office instead of whatever 2 movies Steve Carrell could do in that same amount of time.  And I also wondered......what happened to Jim Carrey?   He used to own the box office...and now is playing second fiddle to Steve Carrell.   That being said the movie does have moments,  just nothing incredible to be worthy of its title.

Mr Popper's Penguins 2011 5 out of 10 (Family film review #2)

Mr Popper's Perfectly Predictable Penguins....  Jim Carrey doing his same old act--throwing in some random moments that could have been straight out of Ace Ventura.  The Penquins were cute....(even though they pooped on Mr Popper)   The kids laughed because all kids movies seem to have the fart joke or poop joke this days.  This story has been done before (without Penguins) it is basically the same old  Dad who is out of touch with his kids that learns a life lesson when his life is suddenly changes movie  (see Game Plan, or the Tooth Fairy ---or half a dozen other  family films).  And yes the Penguins are cute....(I get that) at least these Penguins don't bust out in a rap song like the dreadful looking Happy Feet 2 Trailer.   Penquins being cute is not enough to entertain me for an hour and a half though (I actually feel asleep watching it with the kids and had to finish it the next day).

Mr Popper inherits some Penguins from his out of touch with him father and the Penguins end up making him go a little nutty as he turns his New York apartment (that doesn't allow pets) into a Penquin playground.  He reconnects with his kids and his ex wife and everyone is happy.  The trailer pretty much perfectly sums up this predictable penguin movie.....And yes aren't they cute.  Awwww!
