The Sequels that Never Were, But we wish they had made: Top 5 countdown #3 Beetlejuice

Coming in at Number 3 on my list of the Sequels that never were list, but we wish they had made.

I've wanted a sequel to Beetlejuice ever since I left the theater after watching the original.  It was funny, quirky and original.  Beetlejuice and Nightmare Before Christmas perfectly capture Tim Burton's demented mind on the screen.  With a soundtrack by Danny Elfman (of course)  this movie explores a married couple dealing with the fact that they are now ghosts.  They make the mistake of summoning Beetlejuice instead of following their  guide to the dead handbook on how to haunt their own house.   Like many of Tim Burton's movies the look of the film and especially the afterlife sections were inspired by German Expressionism.
The movie as great as it is just scratches the surface of its potential.  We just get a glimpse of an amazing afterlife in the waiting room scene that shows us a bunch of dead people waiting for help.  That is the world a sequel needs to explore and with the special effects of today the mythology behind the movie could be a fertile playground for numerous films.

Well fortunately this sequel that never was .... looks like it may finally be happening now.  Fresh off of his role in Birdman, Michael Keaton is now hot again and Tim Burton has annouced that a sequel is finally in the works.  I just hope that it can live up to my imagination and explore the world where Beetlejuice lives.

Here is our recent podcast where we discuss wanting a sequel to this and many other films.      Find out what else made my list as well as what made my co-hosts lists in a fun discussion.

The Sequels that Never Were, But we wish they had made: Top 5 countdown #4 The Professional

Coming in at Number 4 on my list of the Sequels that never were list, but we wish they had made.

The Professional was a stylish cool movie about an Assassin that takes in a young girl after her family is murdered.  Starring Jean Reno (who Andy  from our podcast described as the Nic Cage of France) and Natalie Portman when she was a young girl. I would love to see a sequel of this movie with Natalie Portman.  It would be kick ass to see what became of her character.  A plot where she had left all of the assassin business behind and was for some reason forced back into it again could be amazing.  A movie in the vein of Taken --but with Natalie Portman wielding a gun and taking people down.   I would be all in if someone could get Luc Besson to make this movie.   First in line.

The Sequels that Never Were, But we wish they had made: Top 5 countdown #5 Killer Klowns From Outer Space

Coming in at Number 5 on my list of the Sequels that never were list, but we wish they had made.

Killer Klowns is a fun Comedy/Horror film.    It is a silly concept about a bunch of Aliens from outer space that look like demented clowns.  They land in a small town in their giant flying Circus tent and start capturing the town folk and storing them in cotton candy cocoons so that they can eat them later.  The special effects are great.  The look of the evil human eating clowns is awesome.  If one of these clowns showed up to your kids birthday part you had better run for your life.   I would love to see a sequel to this 1988 cult movie and I've heard rumors about it for years.   The latest rumor is that it may actually happen in 2016---but I will believe it when I see it......and see it I will.  Bring back the clowns with a full scale invasion of demented Killer Klowns --returning to earth to see what happened to the original crew.
