The description of the movie was something about a group of high school cheerleaders rising from the dead as zombies to take revenge on the football player from their school that was responsible for their death. It made it sound like a silly, cheesy zombie comedy. I was hoping for a SO Bad that it is Good low budget zombie flick. Instead the movie was actually something completely different. It was more a supernatural witchcraft movie along the lines of The Craft.
The story starts out as sort of a take on "Mean Girls".
After a tragic death of a cheerleader at the beginning of the film an outsider transforms herself to be a cheerleader and a part of the cool crowd. At this point in the film you are thinking that maybe this character or her witchcraft loving ex will turn on the cheerleaders, but the film actually gets a little serious. A party just outside of town ends with the high school quarterback punching his ex girlfriend. This dude is an abusive OJ type and his football career is more important to him then anything else. The girls are going to report this incident --which leads him to drive them off the road leaving them for dead. Extreme.... stuff as the other members of the team are too scared to stand up to him or say anything.
The main characters witch ex --uses a spell an some magical rocks to resurrect the girls. They show up to school the next day like nothing happened to the shock of the football players. The girls start taking revenge on the players --by basically draining them dry of blood to help them stay alive. I'd say they are more like superpowered vampires then zombies.
At this point in the film you are thinking it will just be a simple revenge movie with the hottie cheerleaders killing off the football team. Instead the asshole quarterback figures out what is giving them their powers and starts killing for the magical gems that revived them and the movie ends as more like a supernatural battle between the remaining girls and this powered up OJ.
The film was surprisingly entertaining. Like I said definitely not the film I was expecting at all, but a pleasant surprise.

Predestination was a really strange Time Travel film.
I recorded it on the DVR base on the description –“A
Temporal Agent embarks on a final time travel assignment to prevent an criminal
from launching an attack that kills thousands”.It sounded like a Twelve Monkeys kind of
movie.What you get is something
completely different.You can’t talk
about this movie without running the details of it.

It is actually a really hard movie to review.My thoughts about the film changed several
times while watching it. The movie was described as being about a temporal
agent that is sent back in time to stop a bomber… The concept sounded very
interesting,but the plot immediately
took and unexpected turn as the temporal agent (played by Ethan Hawke) is bartending in a dive bar in the 1970's. He ends up talking with a customer that he thinks is a man (but is clearly played
by a women)who tells him this super
long story which takes up the front 40 minutes of the film.It was a story of an odd girl that wants to
go into space via some space program.She then meets a mystery man that she falls in love with before he
abruptly bails.Her goals of making the space program are dashed when she ends
up pregnant.And then in a weird twist after she has her
baby the doctors tell her that she actually has both male and female parts and
that after the birth they had to switch her sex. Okay that is weird....and not exactly what I was expecting the movie to be about....
At this point in the film I was about ready to give up on
it. This definitely wasn’t the movie I
thought I would be watching. I thought
I would be watching a Time Traveler trying to stop a bomber—but instead I get
some weird sex change story.And someone
steals her baby causing her to hate the mystery
man. She hates him so much that she wants to kill him if she could ever find him again.WTF…..I was bored and uninterested in where this
movie was going.Just when I was about
to give up on the movie it turned a corner and actually got into the time
travel aspect of the story.The Time
Traveler is apparently there to recruit her/him and the story actual gets
interesting for a little bit.Maybe
this movie could be salvaged?
But then the film gives us another twist …..John/Jane gets the
chance to confront the man that ruined her life….but it turns out it was her
(now a man from the future ) that was the mysterious stranger.
Okay now it is just weird again.Only to get weirder when John/Jane impregnates
herself and the baby they have is……..Wait for it…. Her?!?@?!And the Time Traveling bartender guy then leaps around some more and
steals the baby taking her back in time to leave at orphanage.He then goes back to take the John/Jane character
back to the future that he came from –drops her off and goes on his final
mission to kill the bomber…..Which is of course…..wait for it Himself gone
crazy.And it turns out he is John/Jane
as well.
So basically he is his own Mother/Father/Bomber and who
knows which bathroom John/Jane will use and in what decade.It had some good moments ---but I prefer the
Back to the Future idea of Time Travel –where there is a clear branching for
Futures over the what came first the Chicken or the Egg Time Loop that makes no
sense time travel.And I also prefer my
Time Travel movies to get to the time traveling instead of getting bogged down
in a strange sex change story line.The movie although interesting in sections –seemed to really have no
purpose in the end.
Captain America: Civil War was exactly everything that Batman vs Superman should have been......Really great that is.
As I mentioned in my blog about Batman v Superman--those were the comic book characters I grew up with. Batman and Robin, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and yes even lazy ass Aquaman. I actually remember reading some Batman and Flash comic books as a child and cutting pictures out of them
(I know horrible). I watched the Superfriends cartoon on TV and the old Batman TV show with Adam West. I thought Captain America was a lame character until the first new movie came out.
I had no idea who Ironmen was because other than Star Wars I didn't really read comics. When I heard that they were making an Antman movie all I could picture was Patrick Warburton as the Tick from the short lived TV. Things have definitely changed. Marvel has turned characters I had never heard of or could care nothing about into box office giants. Captain America: Civil War blew Batman vs Superman out of the comic book water in my personal opinion.
I could go on and on and on about the details of the movie and the great scenes that made me love it so much -but I like to mix things up and do things a little different some times. So instead of talking about the near perfect action scene the takes place at the airport in which Antman (steals the show in my opinion), I'll discuss the two major differences between what this film did right vs what Batman V Superman did wrong.
1. The Reason that the heroes fight each other:
Marvel has done a great job of building their universe and their characters. They have slowly developed angst between the arrogant playboy Ironman and Captain America since the first Avengers movie. Here they are at odds even back in the first film
The two characters are very different in their personalities and have a natural clash as a result. The film did and excellent job of keeping both characters as heroes that were just on different sides of an issue. It was believable and reasonably for the two characters to be fighting each other. Here is a great clip of them going at in in Age of Ultron.
In other words Marvel built to this moment over several films. They built up to the events in Civil War over time until the audience could see the battle between Ironman and Captain America happening. Both are heroes --but the circumstances that occur in the film lead them to fight.
D.C. did no such thing. D.C. just wanted to achieve what Marvel spent years building all in one film. So instead of building to the moment where their two legendary comic book characters fight they wrote a story where Batman and Superman spend half the movie just complaining about what the other guy is doing. Their anger and hate for each other seems forced and unnatural. And Lex Luthor is able to exploit this in order for the fight in the title to take place. That fight in Batman vs Superman --was the one great thing about the film, but it never should have happened because it was so contrived. D.C. didn't earn their fight between the two heroes and it was therefore a lot less satisfying. The battle of heroes in Civil War smoked anything Batman v Superman presented on screen. Batman v Superman teased things in their trailer that turned out to just be dream sequences --because in the actual film it took the two characters forever to actually fight and they had to create a false tension with those dream sequences.
2. How it Ended:
The biggest difference in the two movies was how they ended.
In Batman v Superman the movie ended with them abruptly ending their fight for one of the dumbest reasons in movie history. The dreaded our mom has the same name scene. This fact causes Batman to not kill Superman and all of a sudden work together immediately as if nothing had ever happened. This scene caused me to tune out the rest of the film because it was so bad.
It was a shame. The first 1:30 minutes of Batman v Superman were so dull and boring that by the time things got interesting I didn't care anymore. The fight between Batman and Superman was actually good --but how it ended made the film lose all credibility with me.
Captain America: Civil War did just the opposite. It lead us to believe we were going to see and epic battle where Ironmen and Captain America were fighting side by side again against a team of Super Soldiers. Instead it gave us another great battle between the Ironman, Captain America and The Winter Soldier. You wanted to see them fighting side by side again with everything between them being patched up, but instead we get something far more satisfying, real and personal.
I knew exactly what I was getting into when I started to
watch Poseidon Rex.I’m beginning to
think that I watch some of these movies just out of habit.It is like an OCD collection type of thing. I'm compelled to record and watch these cheesy Syfy channel style movies.I’m a sucker for a Bad Shark movie and an
Aquatic T-Rex –is basically a Shark movie with a Dinosaur.
Poseidon Rex was exactly what I
expected.In fact the story was so
generic and followed such a formula that I felt like I had already seen this
movie already.I probably have to a
certain degree as the plot seemed lifted directly from a bad Shark/Monster
movie that I’ve seen in the last few years.The main actor had a name I recognized although his face wasn’t
familiar.The movie of course had a
cute blonde “Scientist” with plenty of cleavage (the only good part of the movie)It had a treasure hunter and Caribbean gang
lords.And of course it had a T-Rex like
Creature that could kill on both sea and land.Watching these movies is like watching old A-Team episodes ---every
episode is the same.You tune in to see
the cheesy CGI monsters eat people while you are folding laundry on the weekend.
